| Why Innovate!Europe? Chris SHIPLEY - Executive Producer, Innovate!Europe |
|
| This intimate working symposium marks a turning point in Europe’s Technology
Innovation Ecosystem, as investors, executives, entrepreneurs, media, tech company executives, public administrators, and service providers actively engage with one another for the purpose of creating a more vibrant information economy that functions effectively for the benefit of all the actors in the ecosystem.
Over the next two days, we will embark on a critical examination of the business, education, policy and cultural challenges that must be addressed if the European technology economy is going to prosper. Inspired by thoughtful keynotes and roundtable discussions, Innovate!Europe will generate an ambitious working document to guide the New European Technology Innovation Ecosystem. |

| Setting the Framework: A Realist's Assessment of the European Technology Innovation Ecosystem Sven LINGJAERDE - Vision Capital & Euro Tech Tour Association DOWNLOAD SLIDES |
|
| Sven Lingjaerde has been at the vanguard of private investment capital for more than 20 years, a unique vantage point from which to chart the development of the European Technology Innovation Ecosystem. From that perspective, Lingjaerde has catalogs well the challenges that are limiting the growth of technology entrepreneurship and the technology economy throughout Europe. Despite what he sees as major hurdles, he remains optimistic about the European technology economy and it is in that spirit. | |
| Working Capital: Empowering Europe's Investment Community Moderator: Jeff CLAVIER, SoftTech Venture Consulting Panelists: Marc GOLDBERG, Occam Capital Philippe COLLOMBEL, Partech International Niko VON HEUTZ, Add Partners |
|
| Professional investors provide working capital, along with the experience, support, insight, guidance, and contacts to help small companies grow. Relative to the venture industry in North America, however, investment capital in Europe is still a nascent business. Venture investing must come of age quickly in order to foster a healthy environment in which great innovation can be rapidly and effectively commercialized. How are institutional investors developing better practices to embrace and manage risk? And what do these investors need from entrepreneurs, early adopters, policy makers and others in order to best play their role in the Innovation Ecosystem? | |

3 Questions: The European Technology Innovation Ecosystem |
|
| Innovate!Europe is a collaborative process of discovery and agenda setting, culminating in a ground-breaking white paper, Innovate!Europe Agenda for the New European Technology Innovation Ecosystem, to be delivered to the business leaders, press, and policy makers throughout Europe. | European researchers and programmers create some of the most advanced technologies in the world. But lacking a common practice of product management and market development, many of these technologies and products never find a market or grow a substantial customer base. In this session, successful entrepreneurs will share their best practices in building products that the markets want to buy, and we’ll hear from early-adopter customers who are the early market for new products and who are willing to take a risk on early-stage companies in order to get competitive advantage. | |

| Developing a Culture of Risk Moderator: Alberto HADDAD, Melcion Panelists: Olivier DE MONTETY, Montety, Féral et Cie Nicolas GAUME, Lagardère |

| Even as Europe embraces technology entrepreneurship as an avenue for rapid economic development, accepting risk remains a high hurdle for many in the European Technology Innovation Ecosystem. Yet maintaining a culture of conservatism may be a greater risk than accepting it as a necessary component of technology startup business. In this panel, we hear from entrepreneurs who have embraced risk, learned from failures, pushed through difficult odds, and have become better entrepreneurs – and better risks – as a result. | |
